The Ultimate Gift Guide for That Montgomery County Councilmember in Your Life (Part 1)

Need great gift ideas for that Montgomery County Councilmember in your life?  That special scold, that tax-hikin’ sanctimonious servant, that professional activist-turned-local politician? It can be hard to shop for the politician in your life that already has so much (like 2.8 acres and a mansion, and student loans paid off via the you, the taxpayer), but…

Look no further!  We at CleanSlateMoCo.com have got you covered!

For Evan Glass, Democrat (“At-Large”) our Council President and Transportation and Environment Committee chair: how about a brand new “selfie stick”?  CM Glass loves photos of himself: on the bus, on the metro, sometimes on a hike, or in front of a Ukrainian Orthodox Church to show “solidarity”.  This would be a truly thoughtful gift idea. It takes a lot of planning to virtue signal on social media and this would be an invaluable tool for Mr. Glass.

For Will Jawando, Democrat (again, “At-Large”) our Education and Culture Committee Chair, how about a scrapbook, or family tree type of photo frame?  CM Jawando has made dubious claims about his family’s ancestry in the past.  See here and here.  Scrap booking might be the spark he needs to remember those long-lost ancestors!

For Natali Fani-González, Democrat (District 6) and Chair of the Econ Committee, how about an indoor hydroponics kit?  The Councilmember once opined on Twitter / X that we could “grow lettuce” in our underground metro system, like she witnessed in a taxpayer-funded trip to Taiwan for a “business development conference”.  While it sounds unappetizing to me, maybe the councilmember is on to something?

But…before she grants a cool million of our tax dollars to “WMATA Lettuce for Justice DEI, Inc”, maybe she should try growing some home-grown indoor lettuce first, to get the hang of it and understand how it all works.

For Laurie-Anne Sayles, Democrat (“At Large”), can we suggest a professional, on-call herald and blank scrolls for upcoming proclamations?  Also called a town “crier” or messenger, an on-call herald would be perfect for the Councilmember.  There are constant County proclamations that need to be issued (most having to do with things not even in Montgomery County), and only so much parchment and voice power to go around.  This would be a fantastic gift for the Councilmember (and the entire Council).

More to come in part two of our gift guide!
