Selective Outrage? CMs Evan Glass, Kate Stewart Strangely Silent as Campaign Signs are Stolen, Vandalized Across MoCo

Where’s the beef?  I mean, where is the outrage (by the local politicians)?  As posted here on October 29th, opponents of ballot Question A here in Montgomery County appear to have turned to outright vandalism in taking “Yes for A [Term Limits]” yard signs off of people’s private property.  The act was recorded a handful of times by cameras installed nearby.

Elsewhere in MoCo, in Potomac, at an early voting site, candidate Brenda M. Diaz, running for the MoCo Board of Education, reports some of her signs were vandalized and thrown on the ground near the early vote polling precinct.  Pictures prove the vandalism and the dumb, ignorant messaging written all over this great candidate’s very simple BoE messaging to the public.

All of this is well-documented and out in the public sphere.  I’ve tweeted about it, CleanSlateMoCo.com has written about it, and so have many, many others.  At the time of this writing, my tweet about the pathetic vandalism on Brenda Diaz’s yard signs in Potomac has over 3,500 views to-date.  We are pretty sure someone in the CM’s offices know or have heard about things of this nature this election season.

So why aren’t Councilmembers Evan Glass and Kate Stewart rage-posting about “hate having no home in MoCo”?

A quick flashback to June 28 of 2023 shows that MoCo Councilmembers Evan Glass and Kate Stewart were very concerned when vandals messed with people’s lawn signs and home-based flags for various causes.  Causes they like, of course.  Like the ongoing war in Ukraine.  Or the various multi-color flags that were nearby Evan Glass’s home.  Here is Evan Glass’s twitter, screen capped:

And here we have a screen capture from Kate Stewart (she/her) around this time as well:

And while a bit melodramatic, the CMs were right to condemn these acts of vandalism on people’s private property.  It was uncalled for and should be investigated.

It is just interesting the same fervor or public condemnation by the Councilmembers doesn’t seem to apply when it is vandalism against causes or candidates these politicians don’t really like or support.

Mr. Glass is urging people to vote and taking pics of his dogs this week on social media.  Not a peep about leaving people’s property or yard signs alone.  CM Stewart is wishing “Happy Diwali to all who celebrate! Wishing you a year of light and goodness.” on Twitter.

Selective outrage.  It never seems to cease within the current County Council.
