Diversity, equality, and inclusivity (DEI) is one cornerstone of the progressive creed. The other cornerstone is hating people who don’t subscribe to the progressives’ version of DEI. We all saw this bigotry as far back as the 2018 local elections when progressives were castigating Nancy Floreen, a lifelong, loyal Democrat, for running a break-off campaign.
Since then, the progressive bigotry has gotten even worse.
Students at Clarksburg High School were chanting anti-Semitic slogans earlier this month. The outrage was immediate, and the principal who apparently approved the demonstrations, Edward Owusu, announced his retirement a few days later. Although he cited the end of his career, the timing of his retirement proves that he could not excuse, rationalize, or justify his behavior or that of his students. He couldn’t bring himself to apologize, but at least his pension is secure.
That’s bad. Here is where it gets worse. Tilden Middle School teacher Sabrina Khan-Williams was very recently posting comments reminiscent of Berlin 1930.
Khan-Williams is a DEI teacher! She is only the latest, but the worst, example of the progressive doctrine: it’s my way, and if you disagree you must be harvesting organs. This is worse than allowing Council Member Kristin Mink, a personality with a history of remarks about Moslems, Jews, and white women, to serve on the county’s Hate/Violence committee.
I realize that people suffer from cognitive dissonance. Mink really thinks she is an advocate for tolerance, and Khan-Williams apparently thinks she is qualified to serve as a DEI teacher. That’s perfectly human and perfectly OK. What’s not OK is that neither Mink nor Khan-Williams (apparently) will face the consequences of their actions. In a private school or in the private sector, Ms. Khan-Williams would have been immediately terminated—and for offenses far less serious than hers. But MCPS and the teachers’ union have a long history of promoting, re-assigning, protecting, and excusing one predator after another. The County Council aggravates this situation by granting the schools annual budget increases, even for the racist employees among them.
In a “typical” abusive relationship, the abuser exercises violence, begs the victim for forgiveness, receives forgiveness, and the cycle repeats itself. The only way out of an abusive relationship is for the victim to walk away.
As every day passes, more and more parents, students, and teachers realize they are in a relationship with an abusive school district, with the exception that the school district never asks for forgiveness. If your child is in an abusive school setting, if you are a teacher in a similar setting, you must put an end to it.
- A) Parents: Make the financial sacrifice to attend a private school or form a home schooling group.
- B) Teachers (the good ones, and you know who you are): Make the financial sacrifice to work at a private school, form a home schooling group, or become a tutor.
- C) Everyone: Tell the County Council and Montgomery County delegation in Annapolis that we have an abusive school system, and the time for school vouchers has come.
Like any abusive relationship, MCPS needs its victims far more than the students need it.
