On August 2nd, disgraced College Park mayor Patrick Wojahn pleaded guilty to 140 child pornography charges. Via a plea deal Patrick will receive 30 years in prison for his actions, which were uncovered by officials investigating several social media accounts.
Patrick has long been a character in PG County politics, serving as mayor since 2015, and before that on the County Council for 8 years. Between his political involvement and his membership to various boards and committees, Patrick has made a lot of connections across MD and the Country, the most famous being Pete Buttigieg, whom Patrick claims mentored him.
There is at least one photo of Patrick and sitting Montgomery County Council President Evan Glass. In the photo it is clear Evan is volunteering for Patrick mayoral race.
Since Patrick was arrested on March 2, 2023, Evan has stayed quiet. If given the benefit of the doubt, one could believe this was because it was an active court case. However, even today, after the guilty plea, Evan remains quiet.
What is more interesting is that it seems Patrick has “lots” of relationships with current elected officials.
Given the one-party rule in Montgomery County, we can assume that these people are democrats. And yet the individual and the party stay silent, not only on clarifying their relationship with Patrick, but in general condemning the actions of an elected official. This is peak hypocrisy, as this is the same group of people that 1) never miss an opportunity to demonstrate the purity of their morals and 2) are quick to associate and prescribe the actions of one onto another. This is a group that will comment on a court ruling in another jurisdiction, a shooting in another state, or a war in another country. This is a group that had a candidate been caught in a photo standing next to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, or at an opt-out rally, have run their name through the mud with accusations of association. This is a group that makes a platform out of the tenants of the church you may attend, the clubs you belonged to in high school, or the fraternity you were a part of. And yet, when someone that they campaigned with, who they potentially donated money to, who they endorsed, is arrested for the most hideous of crimes, will not open their mouth.
We deserve better.
