An MCPS teacher has written a book, titled Hang, The Girl. The Amazon description of the book states:
In Hank, the Girl, Hank discovers she is a girl after believing she was a boy. At first, Hank worries what her classmates will think, but she soon realizes their love and friendship are unconditional. As her classmates learn about nonbinary identities, the story sparks a meaningful discussion about inclusivity and understanding. With humor, heart, and a classroom setting relatable to young readers, this book gently introduces complex concepts in an age-appropriate and accessible way.
It has been reported to CleanSlateMoCo that the teacher has had the county buy it for the school library and is inviting classes to come listen to her read it to them. These children are in k-5 special education, with some being non-verbal (unable to tell their parents of this occurring). The teacher also used in an internal MCPS messaging platform to advertise her book and made mention that she would be donating versions of the book to the media center.
In searching to see if the book has been reviewed and approved under the MCPS Evaluation and Selection Process, no record could be found that it was.
Outside of not only being a clear indication that the pursuit of DEI indoctrination is continuing in MCPS, it is also worrisome that the school system would allow self-promotion of something an individual profits from and allow a book to be utilized that has not gone through the review process.
