A FOIA of MCPS emails related to the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack in Israel obtained by Parents Defending Education revealed that on October 16, 2023 Arwa Abde, Middle Eastern Liaison at the County Office of Community Partnerships, sent out an e mail inviting members of the Middle Eastern American Advisory Group to a virtual meeting with County executive Marc Elrich.
According to the invite,
The County Executive wants to talk with representatives of MEAAG and Muslims about what is going on in the Middle East and its impact on our community in MC.”
Non MEAAG members who were Muslim were also invited.
Included in the invite were MCPS SMOB Sami Saeed, Taher Herzallah from American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and Hamza Ewing from CAIR.
Parents Defending Education reported Rebecca Smondrwoski wanted the BOE to issue a statement on the October 7th Hamas attack in Israel and the SMOB (who was Sami Saeed) responded on October 11, 2023:
I just want to say I do not want to be included in any message from the board on any topic surrounding this issue. If the board does decide to release a statement I want it to be noted that I did not sign off on the message
CAIR, an invited organization, was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holyland Five case which involved illegal fundraising for Hamas. AMP, also an invited organization, is currently being sued in the Parizer case alleging they have provided material support for Hamas
A little more than a week after the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack in Israel, County Executive Elrich’s concern was to meet with members of the Muslim Community to see how they were impacted. He however did not speak at the Vigil of Jewish Unity and Solidarity held on October 12, 2023 at Congregation Har Shalom in Potomac. The Vigil was attended by many prominent County leaders.
