Big Questions? We Will Be In Touch (jk)

The following was submitted by a reader that wished to remain anonymous.  We are publishing it as submitted.

With the debate over MCPS’s policy for opt-out taking place, I wanted to understand where each Council Member stood on the issue.  I took the time in early July to write an email asking for their opinion.  Each of the recipients sent back an automated response ‘thanking me’ for my inquiry and promising to be “back in touch shortly”.

Below is the email that was sent:

Any guesses on how many responses have been received?  ONE.  One council member, via a staffer, replied.  Kate Stewart.  Below is her response.

I am sitting here having COVID flashbacks where a County Council that professes to be transparent and engaged with the public actually is a black hole for inquiries that might require them to profess a position and provide a rational and justification for it, nevermind actually engage in a dialogue.  Does the Council only participate in scripted events, pre-populated with questions, to just further advance their priorities?  How can a Council, with something as large as the opt-out debate taking place, just hide under a rock?  It reminds me of the Homer Simpon gif of him backing in the bushes!

I am very dismayed on the engagement.  Thank you for receiving this and hope you can publish it.
