Even ChatGPT is confused by MoCo Elections

On June 13th Delegate Sarah Love officially became Sen. Sarah Love.  The MoCo elected elite took to X to share their congratulations and gush how she was the “right pick”.

The strange thing (well strange to anyone who doesn’t live in Montgomery County) is that Sara officially became Senator after receiving a total of ZERO votes.  Thats right.  Sarah was appointed to the seat. Sadly, this isn’t unusual.  As reported by MoCo360:

The proportion of Montgomery County’s legislative delegation placed by the appointment, rather than electoral, process skyrocketed last year (2022) from about 25% (nine members) to more than 40% (14 members of the 35-seat delegation).

Appointed by who?  Well, the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee.  Not only does this process not involve citizens in in a democratic process, but it is also a convenient way to avoid public scrutiny and campaigning that is typically required.  An appointed individual does not have any promises to break, because well they never have to make any.  They do not have to go through the fire of being questioned on positions, because well there are no questions.  And they certainly do not have to shake your hand or respond to your emails, cause well they don’t actually need your vote.

Who can change this system….well the people that got their jobs through appointment of course.

So this year, as national campaign rhetoric ramps up, and politicians who normally don’t bother communicating with the citizens they represent request X password resets so they can post how so-and-so is going to kill democracy if elected, remember this:  Democracy has already died a cold hard death in Montgomery County.
