As early voting continues in MoCo the MCEA union representatives and their endorsed candidates are camping out at popular polling locations handing out the Apple Ballot, strong arming voters to pull the lever for them, and generally creating the perception that they are a consensus choice.
At least one candidate has reported that he has witnessed mudslinging from a local candidate. This behavior was also evident during the last BOE election.
Five minutes into arriving at Veterans Plaza, an Apple Ballot candidate was engaging in mudslinging and lying to voters about our campaign.
Our opponents are just a microcosm of the institutional and structural issues with our public pedagogy.

Laura Stewart, candidate for District 4, and the soon to president of MCEA, posted a picture that was taken on May 4th. In the picture they pose with an unknown individual wearing a sweatshirt that reads “I’m the teacher Fox News warns you about.” This is a direct stick in the eye to what parents across the county have privately and publicly shared about MCPS – that teachers are subverting the will and control of parents and inserting their own agenda into the curriculum and minds of children. Was the sweatshirt worn in jest? Maybe. And maybe not. Regardless, it does expose a deep bias and prejudice. It also gives credence to much of what Fox News has published regarding MCPS – maybe there actually are teachers, administrators and union officials that support the reporting of Fox news. These include:
Maryland’s most populous county told students there is a ‘double pandemic’ of COVID and racism
The list goes on and on of relevant concerns and issues.
When such ideology is on clear display it is a clear indication for voters to condemn it to preserve a county that is truly inclusive, open-minded, and welcoming of all.
